چکیده
Smartphone users are constantly facing the risks of losing their private information to third-party mobile applications. Studies have revealed that vast majority either do not pay attention privacy or unable comprehend messages. Developers though exploited this fact by asking grant apps an enormous number permissions. In article, we propose and evaluate a new security-centric ranking algorithm built on top Elasticsearch engine help evade such apps. The calculates intrusiveness score for app based its requested permissions, received system actions, users' preferences. As such, further approach capture these We using million Android applications, contextual data APK files, collect from Google Play store. results show scoring reranking steps add minor overhead. Moreover, participants user studies gave positive feedback preferences solicitation approach. These suggest our proposed would definitely protect pushes developers into requesting least amount privileges. Still, there many endanger privacy.

A Usage-Pattern Perspective for Privacy Ranking of Android Apps
Android applies a permission-based model to regulate applications (apps). When users grant apps permissions to access their sensitive data, they cannot control how the apps utilize the data. Existing taint-based techniques only detect the presence of exfiltration flow for the sensitive data, but cannot detect how much sensitive data are leaked. Users need more intuitive measures to inform them ...
متن کاملMechanisms to Mitigate Wireless Privacy Threats
The proliferation of mobile wireless devices enables or magnifies several privacy threats that traditional link layer confidentiality mechanisms, such as payload encryption, do not protect against: user tracking, profiling, and traffic analysis. For example, it is well known that the exposure of long-lived, unique device addresses can be used to track users over time. Although these addresses c...
متن کاملPrivacy & Security Issues Related to Match Scores
Security and privacy issues remains a major hurdle in wide deployment of biometric based authentication system. For example, unauthorized access or regeneration of face templates has serious implications on the privacy of the concerned users. For robust and practical implementation of such system it is necessary to identify and explore the possible ways by which reconstruction of template is fe...
متن کاملPrivacy Revelations for Web and Mobile Apps
Users of Web and mobile apps must often decide whether to give the apps access to personal information without knowing what they will do with it. We argue that users could better manage their privacy and privacy standards would rise if the operating system simply revealed to users how their apps spread personal information. However, for this strategy to be effective, the research community must...
متن کاملPrivacy Friendly Apps - Making Developers Aware of Privacy Violations
Android devices are widely used on a daily basis. As those devices can open doors for attackers and companies to privacy sensitive data, developers have to be aware of potential risks. We introduce the project of Privacy Friendly Apps, explain its design principles and describe some of its resulted apps. The long-term goal of this project is twofold: (1) raise awareness of developers regarding ...
